Chuck Collins is a senior scholar at the Institute for Policy (IPS) and directs IPS’s Program on Inequality and the Common Good. He is an expert on U.S. inequality and author of several books, including Economic Apartheid in America: A Primer on Economic Inequality and Insecurity (New Press, 2005). He coordinates a national effort to preserve the federal estate tax, our nation’s only tax on inherited wealth. He co-authored with Bill Gates Sr., Wealth and Our Commonwealth, a case for taxing inherited fortunes.
In 1995, he co-founded United for a Fair Economy (UFE) to raise the profile of the inequality issue and support popular education and organizing efforts to address inequality. In 1997, he co-founded Responsible Wealth, a project of UFE to bring together business leaders and investors to publicly speak out against economic policies and corporate practices that worsen economic inequality. He was Executive Director of UFE from 1995-2001 and Program Director until 2005.

Before there was a Woodstock Concert, there was Elliot Tiber working to make a go of his parents' upstate New York hotel, the El Monaco. It wasn't easy. The Jewish clientele who had returned to the Catskills year after year had discovered Florida, and the upstate hotel business was dying.
To save his family's livelihood, Elliot put on plays, musicals, and local festivals. In the process, Elliot became the area's official issuer of event permits--not that anybody else wanted that position. Elliot even worked weekends as an interior design artist in New York City, all in the hopes of helping his family.
In the summer of 1969, Elliot Tiber's life changed in a way he never could have foreseen. Greenwich Village had become the mecca for gays in America. There, Elliot had socialized with the likes of Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Andy Warhol, and a talented young photographer named Robert Maplethorpe, and yet had managed to keep his gay life a secret from his family. Then on Friday, June 27, Elliot walked into the Stonewall Inn--and witnessed the riot that would galvanize the gay movement in the United States. And on July 17, when Elliot read that the Woodstock Concert promoters had lost their license to stage the show in Wallkill, he called to offer his help in finding a new venue. In the days that followed, Elliot found himself swept up in a vortex that would change his life forever.
The events that unfolded during that hot New York summer have come to be recognized as major turning points in our cultural history. Few, however, have enjoyed Elliot Tiber's unique view of those events. Taking Woodstock is the funny, touching, and true story of the man who enabled Woodstock to take place. Irwin just got back from a trip to Rwanda sponsored by the Clinton Global Initiative. He went with a group of leading scientists, film, healthcare and business people. (He was the “spiritual” guy.) The group met with President Kagame and one of the themes they looked at was genocide—how a country is handling its own past, given that perpetrator and victim live side by side, and the lessons learned. YOUNGSTOWN — High school students in Mahoning County facing expulsion for misbehavior will get a second chance to complete their education when Mahoning County High School opens this fall.
It’s a new charter school, created to provide both academic and vocational education with a strong emphasis on behavior modification.
The goal is to do all that can be done to assure these children complete their education and graduate from high school, said Judge Theresa Dellick of the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center. She has been the driving force behind the development of the alternative education school."

Iain Stewart is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geology at the University of Plymouth. He graduated in 1986 with a degree in Geology & Geography from Strathclyde University in Glasgow and moved to the University of Bristol to carry out doctoral research on the geology of earthquakes in Greece and Turkey.
After finishing his PhD in 1990, Iain lectured in geology at Brunel University in west London, then left in 2002 to take up an Honorary Research Fellow post at Glasgow University while getting the Journeys... series off the ground.
His main research interests are in the broad area of Earth hazards and natural disasters, particularly in terms of identifying past major earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions in the Mediterranean region. Iain's geological research has featured in two BBC Horizon specials - The Search of Ancient Helike and Earthquake Storms - and he was the geology member of the science team in the recent BBC Two series Rough Science.

Bugliosi prosecuted 106 felony jury trials, winning 105, including twenty-one murder convictions without a single loss. He is best known for his prosecution of Charles Manson, whose cult-like followers mudered actress Sharon Tate, who was nearly nine months pregnant, and four others in Tate's Los Angeles home in 1969. The notorious case became the basis of Bugliosi's "Helter Skelter," the biggest selling true-crime book in publishing history.
In his latest book, the attorney points to the Bush administration's public statements that prompted the Iraq War and led to the deaths of thousands of American troops and Iraqi civilians as the reasons for his murder allegation against the president.

this past Sunday afternoon my mom's 13 year old male cockatiel escaped. She lives on the South Side on E. Boston and South Avenue. We have notified as many organizations and vets we can think of as well as putting up the attached poster all over the south side. Would you please be able to mention about it on-air and just spread the word? My mother is 70 years old and just adores this little guy. She is just totally heartbroken. The cockatiel's name is Elvis and he is human friendly. If you have any other suggestions please let me know, we would appreciate all the help we can get.
